The Singing Elf is a Social Enterprise based in Pittington near Durham. We recently announced Project Sunset - a series of four events, honouring our 7 years of singing, creativity and wellbeing as we prepare to close our doors.

Like many other community organisations, we have been affected by the increasing pressures of the rising cost-of-living, mixed with a fall in funding. Over the past year, we have faced a number of challenges but worked hard to ensure that we continued to deliver the best possible service for our community. However, it is with sadness that we have been forced to accept that this chapter of our journey will come to an end in April.

We know that for many of our community, this announcement will come as sad and unexpected news. In the coming weeks, we will share more details about our journey. For now, we thank you in advance for your support, ask you to get involved with Project Sunset and give us a little bit of time to absorb this difficult news before we share more info.

Welcome to The Singing Elf! We provide fully inclusive singing, creativity and wellbeing activities. We are a disability-led, not-for-profit Social Enterprise based in Pittington. We work with our local communities living in nearby villages in and around Durham City and Houghton-le-Spring in the Sunderland Coalfields.

Over half of our staff, volunteers and participants live with a long term physical or mental health condition, disability or are neuro-divergent. Our inclusive sessions are suitable for most adults but we encourage anyone with complex needs to get in touch to discuss their needs.

Several of our big projects came to an end in 2023. For Spring 2024 we will welcome new singers to Unity Community Choir in February and continue to visit a variety of venues with The Serenity Room - our wellbeing programme.

The Singing Elf was founded in 2017. Before 2020, we offered a range of in-person singing activities along with hosting our annual festival - Durham Big Sing. During the pandemic we pivoted to meet the needs of our community, expanding to include arts and crafts and delivering a massive covid-response project which included 77 weeks of online activities and thousands of home delivered craft packs. With the help of our funders, The Singfulness Project has now reached 10,000 people in our local communities.

Since 2021 we have delivered a wide-range of in-person singing, craft and wellbeing sessions. Our projects are constantly evolving along with our communities but also rely on support from funders. At present our craft, family and community cafe projects are not running. Our inclusive singing festival Durham Big Sing will also not take place in 2024. We look forward to updating you when new projects are announced.
