About Durham Big Sing 2019 & Event Videos
Durham Big Sing took place for the first time as a one day event at Gala Theatre Durham in May 2019. We welcomed singers of all abilities from across the North East. In our first year, most singers were already part of the 20 choirs who attended, but we also had a lot of individual singers take part too. 8 of the choirs performed as part of the event both on the professional stage at Gala and outdoors as part of our Busking in the City lunch hour. The festival celebrated the vibrant mix of group singing in our region. Choirs of all shapes and sizes shared their passion with hundreds of others and took inspiration back home to their sessions.
The choirs who took part were:
Bella Canta Ladies Choir | Caedmon Choir | Choral Interlude | Durham Female Voices | Durham Harmonics | Durham Scratch Choir | Esh Gospel Choir | Heaton Voices | Linskill Community Choir | Newcastle City Council Choir | North East Gospel Choir | One Voice Choir | Sunderland Empire Community Chorus | The Country Roads Choir | The Low Fell Singers | Unity Choir | Urban Chorus | Weardale Warblers
Unfortunately we won't be returning to Gala Theatre this year, or be including the Busking in the City element from 2019 but we hope that our choir day will return for 2024.

They formed 13 years ago and have sung with a variety of celebrities including Leona Lewis, Peter Andre, Joe McElderry and Russell Watson as well as supporting The Blind Boys of Alabama in Hall 1 at Sage Gateshead. The choir often gets invited to sing at weddings around the North East which they love to do. They tell us they sing for the sheer enjoyment of singing – we can’t think of a better reason!
