Durham Big Sing: Festival of Choirs
Community Choirs from across the North East are invited to come and be part of Festival of Choirs, the final event of Durham Big Sing. This page includes all of the information you will need to attend as a choir.
Who can take part?
Durham Big Sing welcomes adult singers of all abilities. Most of our events are accessible to all levels of experience as the mix of voices is one of the magical aspects of the festival; enabling complete beginners to sing alongside seasoned choir veterans. Some sessions will be specifically aimed at first time singers or nervous beginners whilst others will be aimed at those already singing regularly.
Some of the events will also be open to accompanied young people but the focus of the festival is on adults. Each event will be booked separately so that singers can tailor their festival experience to suit them. The final Festival of Choirs day is only open to singers bookings as part of a group of 5 or more.
The 10 day festival offers a varied programme of workshops and performances. Each event is booked separately so that singers can tailor their festival experience to suit them. The headline events Festival of Voices and Festival of Choirs have been deliberately spread across two weekends to give maximum opportunity for people to fit in attendance around their day to day lives.
The outline below shows the parts of the programme which are already confirmed but there are a variety of events and ideas still in the pipeline. We will be consulting with the region’s singing community to help us plan and deliver the full programme.

We trialled busking last year, and the feedback from it was very positive. So, we’ve expanded the busking part of the day this year, with more slots available of variable performance length and more time available to enjoy listening to other choirs when not performing yourself.
