Durham Big Sing: About 2019
What happened at Durham Big Sing 2019?
Durham Big Sing was a brand new event which brought together hundreds of singers from across the North East for one BIG day of singing!
With almost 400 singers taking part, the day featured four massed singing workshops led by two of the region’s top vocal leaders, along with performances by choirs from across the region. Our experienced workshop leaders Sharon Durant and Simon Davies-Fidler taught uplifting pieces from scratch to create one BIG choir which raised the roof of the Gala’s main auditorium! Between the workshops, choirs shared their passion for group singing with inspiring performances on Gala’s indoor stage. At lunchtime we filled the City with song, with choirs busking in the Market Place and other outdoor locations near the Gala Theatre.
Who took part?
Durham Big Sing welcomed singers of all abilities from across the North East. Most were already part of the 20 choirs who attended, but we also had a lot of individual singers take part too. 8 of the choirs performed as part of the event.
Durham Big Sing celebrated the vibrant mix of group singing in our region. Choirs of all shapes and sizes shared their passion with hundreds of others and took inspiration back home to their sessions.
