Pay As You Feel

This Autumn, Unity Choir has received funding from Sunderland City Council. Our Find Your Voice sessions are fully funded, and FREE to attend.

You may choose to make a ‘Pay as you Feel’ donation at any time that suits you. Some of our singers choose to make 'one-off ' donations and others prefer to set up a regular donation. Wherever you live and whatever your circumstances, you choose how much to donate and when. You do not need to live in the funded area to benefit from our sessions.

We know that for many, the pandemic has made times even harder and we are committed to keeping our sessions ‘Pay as you feel’ for as long as possible. Unity is a fully inclusive choir and we will continue to do everything in our power to prevent finance from ever being a barrier. Our current funding covers our sessions until the end of 2021.

Why donate if sessions are funded?

Unity Choir is run by The Singing Elf Social Enterprise – we are a local, not-for-profit, community organisation. Some of our projects receive funding but not all of our work is covered by funding. We rely on donations to help our singing continue even when we aren’t receiving funding and to support other aspects like our performances, social events and our online community. Every time a donation is made, it helps us continue our work and reach more people in our community who otherwise would not be able to take part.

How much should I donate?

It is entirely up to you if, when and how much you 'pay as you feel'. We know that for many, the pandemic has made times even harder and we are committed to keeping our sessions ‘Pay as you feel’ for as long as possible to ensure that no one is pressured to donate if they are unable to.  Before the pandemic, Unity Choir charged a minimum fee of £5 per person, per session. Throughout the pandemic, many of our members continued contributing £20 per month in order to support our work. Others made one-off donations when they could, or supported our work in other ways such as volunteering their time.

Making a Regular Donation

Regular donations to Unity are set up as Direct Debits via Go Cardless. Donations are be taken from your bank account on the 1st working day of each month and you can cancel your regular payments at any time.

Go Cardless is an international renowned payments company, who are fully encrypted and secure, meaning that your details are kept safe. You will have control over the amount you pay, increasing or decreasing payments, or cancelling your payments.

Your payments will need to be set up at least 5 working days before the first payment is made. This means that you will need to set up your Go Cardelss payment by Sunday 24th October 2021 in order for your payments to start on 1st November.

Simply choose the amount you wish to pay each month, click on the button and follow the instructions to set up your regular payment.

Below, you will find answers to some frequently asked questions about Go Cardless:

Is Go Cardless secure? Yes, Go Cardless go to great lengths to ensure customer data stays safe at all times, including having their systems approved by some of Europe's major banks, and treating all data in accordance with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Will I receive a confirmation that I have set it up? Yes, you will receive an email from Go Cardless, and then another from The Singing Elf.

Why can't I just make a Bank Transfer? Go Cardless looks after all of the paperwork we would need to do to process your payment, saving our small team a lot of time. Bank transfers are hard to keep track of, as they come in at different times and sometimes people forget to do it.

How do I make changes to my payment? If you want to cancel, pause or change your payments, send an email to and let us know. Alternatively, you can cancel your Direct Debit directly through your bank. PLEASE NOTE: You must give 5 working days notice of any changes you wish to make.

Suggested Payment Amounts

We are sometimes asked how much we would recommend for a monthly donation. Here are some things to consider when selecting your payment amount:

1. There is no obligation to pay. People can access these sessions for FREE, thanks to funding from Sunderland City Council. Any payments made are voluntary.

2. On average, our sessions cost around £5 per participant. This covers things like room hire, printing costs, session leader time, recording time etc.

3. It costs around 50p per participant per session for refreshments.

4. Any donation is greatly appreciated

Making a One-Off Donation

You can make a one-off donation by using the link below. Donations will be made by card payment through our website. You can return and make further donations using the same link at any time.

Donations can be made for £1, £2, £3, £5, £8, £10, £15, £20, £25 or £30.
