Welcome to The Singing Elf! We provide fully inclusive singing, creativity and wellbeing activities. We are a disability-led, not-for-profit Social Enterprise based in Pittington near Durham City. We work with our local communities living in nearby villages in and around Durham City and Houghton-le-Spring in the Sunderland Coalfields.
We mainly work with adults but do also offer family activities, usually in school holidays. Over half of our staff, volunteers and participants live with a long term physical or mental health condition, disability or are neuro-divergent. Our inclusive sessions are suitable for most adults.
Before Covid-19, we offered a range of in-person singing activities along with hosting our annual festival - Durham Big Sing. During the pandemic we pivoted to meet the needs of our community, expanding to include arts and crafts and delivering a massive covid-response project which included 77 weeks of online activities and thousands of home delivered craft packs. With the help of our funders, The Singfulness Project has now reached 10,000 people in our local communities.
This Autumn we have launched a programme of new wellbeing sessions called The Serenity Room and continue to run our community choir Unity who will welcome new singers again in Spring 2024.
Get into the festive spirit at this joyful family-friendly concert. Featuring performances from Unity - a local community choir, and The Singergy Collective - combining voices from across the North East. With informal renditions of familiar Christmas favourites, along with toe-tapping new tunes and warming seasonal refreshments.

Escape the world at our new monthly wellbeing sessions in The Serenity Room. Each month we will welcome an expert guest to introduce us to different ways to pause, relax and find moments of calm. In our ultra chilled sessions you'll get to take a little time for yourself. The sessions will gently guide you through a variety of activities including Sound Baths, Mindfulness, Inclusive Chair Yoga, Drum Meditation and Qigong (a form of movement, breathing, and meditation).
