Rainbow Voices a project of hope

Welcome to The Singing Elf

Hi, I’m Rebecca McGarvie, the founder of The Singing Elf!

We are a Social Enterprise based in Pittington, near Durham City. Pre-COVID we ran live singing events, our community choir Unity rehearsed weekly in Hetton and we were organising our festival – Durham Big Sing, due to involve 2,000 singers in May 2020.

Since March 2020 we have been running an online singing programme and have welcomed hundreds of singers to our upbeat, super friendly Zoom sessions, helping them get to grips with the techie stuff along the way. We sing songs that can’t help but put a smile on your face and will leave you uplifted and energised. We welcome all voices, no experience is necessary. Our community choir Unity host free online sessions every Tuesday evening.

In Summer 2020 we launched The Singfulness Project – a new programme of creative and mindful activities design to help people ‘find their happy’ along with moments of calm during these challenging times. Since then, over 100 people have taken part in our live online sessions and 250 people have joined The Singfulness Community on Facebook. Our incredible team of volunteers have packed over 200,000 craft bits for our activity packs to make 500 Summer, 1,000 Winter and 2,000 Rainbow Packs!

Launching on Tuesday 23rd March 2021 to mark the anniversary of the 1st national lockdown, our brand new project Rainbow Voices aims to help our community reflect on our experience this past year, reconnect with each other and begin the process of rebuilding in life after lockdown. The programme will include a mix of creative activities to do at home, online sessions and
in-person events in Summer 2021!
